~Catherine de th`e Cups TableScape Thursday On The Road Again...

This week is a Travel'in Tablescape Thursday!
While visiting my dear mother, Myra, for a brief evening in PA just two evenings ago...she surprised us with a lovely dinner. Everything was just so lovely, I decided this had to be my Tablescape Thursday post this week!
Because lighting is dim in her Dining Room, she used two of these lovely little candlesticks that stand about 10" high and use a small votive candle. She tied little snow berries on the neck of each candlestick, which really was sweet... since Valentine's Day had just passed.
In the center of the table was a large round silver lazy susan that held a few sets of salt/pepper shakers, and a lovely little white milk glass basket that she used to float what appeared to be a real flower, but it was silk. In the summer my mother has hundreds (if not thousands) of live blossoming flowers of all kinds in her garden. It's an every day occurrence to see Dahlia blooms floating in baskets like this in the summer. The little s/p shaker set in the right forefront of the basket belonged to my grandma.
Please note, the little ceramic coaster that the wine glass is sitting under. My mother loves these, and don't they look cute the way she used them? They are from a Holland America Cruise, I believe I brought these back to her one year as a souvenir.
My mother is very thrifty! (Remember, I was a Girl Scout; she was a leader) ;)
She has used many varied types of stoneware in her tablescape, and she did a great job of mixing and matching. The dinner plates with the blue edged rim, which she recently picked up very reasonable from a yard sale or thrift shop, was put together with a plain white ironstone soup bowl. The coffee cup is the same color tone, but with a little blue cornflower on it. It all ties in very nicely, so who says "Thrifty Tablescapes" can't look pretty & stunning?
Candlestick Shade: I wanted to show you a closer look at the little glass charms on the candlestick shade. It's so adorable and creates just enough light, the pair were perfect for a dinner party of nine at the table!
The Table Runner and the Place Mats are made from a tapestry like material and have a lovely winter scape theme with Red Cardinals on them. The shades of blue really pull out the blue rim on the dinner plate. The silver used are other "thrifty" sets of silverware, my mother has always believed in using what she has. Being born during the depression, my mom is extremely frugal when it comes to buying anything new. Especially when what she has already serves the purpose! She has all her stainless steel silverware in a basket on her counter, which makes it very easy to grab when she sets her table. She has had this silverware for as long as I can recall, and it still transfers the food nicely from plate to mouth! ;)
Well......there you have it!
My mother, Myra's, Thrifty & Cute Tablescape Thursday presentation!
Once again.......she captures my heart as creative, crafty, and cunning...
& at the age of 76, she is proving that age has nothing on the younger women of today~
Isn't that right Mom?
Menu:

Home made Mashed Potatoes, Greens with Bacon and Hot Dressing,

Corn, Turkey & Gravy, Stuffing, and finally...Cheesecake for dessert

It was all delicious!

Now, don't forget to slide on over to Susan's at "Between Naps On The Porch" to enjoy all the other many tablescapes today!

How lovely that you have your mother to share Tablescape Thursday. I lost my own mother almost two years ago, when she was 84. My mom used to set the most beautiful table. Everyday was a special day. I grew up eating by candlelight as a child. Your mother's table is delightful.

Hi Catherine- I am just getting to commenting on yours and others tablescapes. I throughly enjoyed browsing over your mom's table. It looked so put together using very simple but lovely dishes and accents. I agree! If one pays attention...frugality shows off the beauty of simplicity!
