Meta Monday Staircase & Foyer Dramatic Facelift & Blue Monday ~ Cottage of Contentment

Welcome to Blue Monday with Smiling Sally...
Thanks Sally for hosting a very popular theme every Monday!
Please be sure to slide by Sally's to see every one's Blue Monday shares...
I fell in love with this Blue/White "Cottage of Contentment" plate that I picked up recently at Emma's Attic Consignment Shop in Flowery Branch, GA. She was only $5. I collect Blue/White dishes, but what really drew me to her was the verse. If you stop by Emma's, say hello to Abbie for me. Abbie is the owner and she's fabulous to work with!
This is what markings are on the back of the ironstone plate.
Moving on....to a fabulous Meta Monday project!
Thanks to Susan from "Between Naps On The Porch" for hosting this FUN event!
Be sure to slip by Susan's when you're done to see more fun makeover posts!
If you follow my blog, you'll remember the fabulous TableScape at my sister Becky's house...well, Sheila from Note Songs asked if we could see more of Becky's house, ;)
So, I thought I'd oblige! ;) Thanks for the suggestion Sweet Sheila! ;)
Since I helped my sister (some) on the makeover of her staircase, I thought
sure...we can do this as a Meta Monday share!
Before Pic... carpeting on steps, wood stained banister, wood balusters
More Before Pics...
More Before Pics...my sister decided after seeing a picture with black steps and white risers and black wrought iron balusters and a banister painted black, she wanted to do the same for her foyer entryway and staircase.
After much sweat and tears on my Sister Becky's part...and a little sweat from me,
"Voila"...
Add in some other black items:
My sister & I went shopping to purchase some other black items to pull in the look she wanted. Isn't the mirror cool? We purchased that very reasonable, $40, at The Queen of Hearts antique shop in Buford, GA. Then we took some things she already had and re purposed them to this space.
With this makeover,
it totally transformed Becky's foyer and it
looks even better than the picture she modeled it after.
THANKS Becky for allowing me to use your foyer as this Meta Monday post! ;)
Stop back by for Wordless Wednesday & Outdoor Wednesday!

Wow, the change in the staircase is just stunning. It's takes a lot of vision to imagine the difference and then to carry it through. All the black accessories are also just perfect. So beautifully done. Your Cottage of Contentment is just precious. Such a lovely piece. Thanks for the inspiration. Hugs, Marty

Catherine,

I love your plate as I do all blue & white. You have sooo many shops around you in Georgia. I'd be out scouting all the time.

Job well done on the staircase. Notice how any people are afraid of black? The opposite of white, which is so loved!! Hard to vision but always beautiful. You guys did good!!

Awesome job on the staircase! That would've taken me about 5 seconds to fall in love with the idea, and maybe . . . a little while longer to actually decide to do. Boy did it turn out wonderfully!!!!
I love blue and white. I think love the red transfer and pink transfer too. And I love a set of dishes that I have that are blue and yellow.Ok Ok I love dishes!!!!
(I chickened out on entering my little box. It seemed so insignificant when I looked at what everyone else was posting.) I guess I can always do it later.
Thanks for the post! karen

CC,
I really love that little blue plate, all the cool stuff seems to be down south. I told my hubby we need to head south this summer because that's where all the good shopping/antiques are! Your sister's staircase left me speechless, please tell her how stunning it is and what a job that must have been. thanks for sharing, Cindy

Hi Catherine,
Such a beautiful plate! I see that I need to check out a few places here in Georgia that I have missed out on. Maybe it's a good thing - looks like I could do some damage in these places :-)

I love the changes made to the staircase!! So beautiful! I long to do the same thing to mine - one day I will get up the courage to attempt it.
Thanks for sharing - great post!
Blessing,
Kymber

Kelly @ Much To Do With Nothing said...

I've considered painting my stairs black too. Do you mind telling me how it looks with the wood floors in real life. I love the look in the picture! I removed the carpet, and did a wood faux finish, on the stairs of our old house. Now I don't like the wood on the stairs in our new house. So I have to do something again. This makeover is amazing!

The railing redo is so you and soooo beautiful...gorgeous. I thought of you today while visiting somewhere? and they had several French children's books and the little girl's name was Catherine.

I love it when my sissy, CC, wants to showcase a little bit of my home. She also likes to come play house with me which I sooooooooooo love because she is great at it and I'm just okay. The staircase was a big undertaking. I got so many outrageous estimates and decided to be frugal and do it myself to save the money. My hubby didn't like the fact that it took me about 5 months but hey, it's done and yes, I love it also. Thank you for all your wonderful comments. It brightened my day.

Have a wonderful MetaMonday!
